SOMEONE WILL LOVE IT…AND MAYBE BUY IT

While working as a legal secretary I made sure I got to the Art Students League after work. I was still new at portrait painting. The 3 paintings here were sold to people at my office!  I never promoted them or said they were for sale. These were just beginner paintings I thought. But it was a great sign that they spoke to those people.

Don’t paint to sell. Don’t paint to be famous. Don’t try to paint to fit into the art world. Don’t do art that says look at me. Be humble and do what you want to do.

The block is about being dishonest and not speaking your truth. No one liked my work at the League because they were not skilled realist works. WHO CARED WHETHER THEY LIKED THEM. COMPARE AND DISPARE. When the artist block broke I stopped caring what people thought.

Someone will love your work.

  1. I once had an art teacher tell me my work really communicated emotion but it was the technically incorrect. It upset me so much but now I laugh because people can just take a photo if they want realism. Being able to show emotion in your work is so much better! These are amazing, I am glad to hear you are through your block and back to painting again! 🙂
